What I Read This Summer...

Do you read a lot during the summer? I usually read a TON! But this summer I was a little more busy than usual, like; I-got-married-busy. But I managed to read a few books and I'll review them for you and discuss them with you. The good ones and not so good ones. Sound off in the comments what you read this summer and what was your favorite and least favorite!

behind closed doors.jpg

I read Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris. It was an entertaining read but not incredible. It was about a husband and wife that have the picture perfect marriage. But something is fishy at just HOW perfect it seems....have you read this? What did you think?

Alice-Network-cover-530x800.jpg

The Alice Network was super enticing from the get-go. WWI & WWII & spies?? I'm a suck for a good historical fiction. This novel was pretty great, it jumps from WWI to right after WWII and intertwines between two women. The ending was great and the strong female characters were great to follow. I do have to forewarn that there are some graphic scenes of sexual assault. But I do recommend this read! Have you read it? What did you think?

Okay this book was pretty horrible. I read it because a few of my friends decided to read it and we wanted a book to discuss. It was a weird non-existing synopsis. It was just a random, boring commentary that had no real point to it. I do not recommend this at all. Did you read this? What did you think?

eng-the-guernsey-literary-and-potato-peel-pie-society.jpg

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was a quick and unique read! It is in letter form from and to the protagonist and everyone else. It is just after WWII and a young author becomes entranced with the little island of Guernsey. There is a movie being made and Lily James (Downton Abbey) plays the main character, Juliet. I can't wait to see it! I recommend this read for something quick and inspiring.

handmaids tale.jpg

Earlier this summer there was a big obsession with the Handmaid's Tale in anticipation of the new Hulu series. I jumped on the wagon and decided to read the novel by Margaret Atwood. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, it kept me entertained and it was a quick read. As for the Hulu series, I just couldn't get hooked. I think I left off on episode three. And I am still wondering--where is the sequel to this novel?? The ending was not enough, Margaret!

That is what I read this summer! I am currently reading:

  • Goodbye, Vitamin by Rachel Khong
  • Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate
  • Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
  • The Summer Queen (Eleanor of Aquitane, #1) by Elizabeth Chadwick

What books do you recommend? Any new favorites? Anything horrible?
